Why I'm building this
Endo appointment last week. Time in range was 49%. The conversation went the way these conversations always go. Pre-bolus more. Count carbs more carefully.
I am a third-generation T1D. I have been counting carbs, or pretending to, since I was diagnosed. And I have been telling myself the same lie that long: I can estimate this. I have a feel for it. The 49% is what that lie looks like on a graph.
The honest version is that I guess. A plate of pasta might be 60g of carbs or 110g and I treat both the same way because I cannot be bothered weighing food at 7pm on a Tuesday with two kids asking me questions. We say we should weigh. We do not.
So I drove home from the appointment annoyed. And somewhere on the way I thought: I am a software developer. I have access to AI models that can look at a plate of food and tell me what is on it. Why am I still guessing.
A few days in, the obvious thought arrived. If I have been struggling with this for this long, I'm sure other T1D's struggle with the same thing.
This is the start of Carbol.
