Carbol is live

1 min read

Today the site, beta programme, and product all went live. By "live" I mean genuinely usable. Someone can land on carbol.co.nz, sign up, log a meal, and get a carb estimate with suggested units in about 5 seconds.

A few things shipped together because they all needed to be in place for launch to make sense.

The pricing structure is now real. New accounts start with a 7-day trial (5 estimates per day, no card required). After that, Starter at 15 NZD per month gets you 10 estimates per day. Plus at 25 NZD per month is unlimited. Beta testers get full Plus access for the duration of the beta at no cost.

The beta programme opened with 20 spots. By the end of the day 17 of those were taken. I'd hoped for some interest. I didn't expect that.

The parent and guardian flow shipped too. T1D affects a lot of children and teenagers. Carbol's account-holder model requires an adult (18 or over) to create and hold the account, accept the disclaimers, and supervise any use by a minor. Given that the app suggests insulin units, the responsibility model needed to be unambiguous from day one.

Roadmap, About, and Contact pages all live. The roadmap shows what's done, what's coming, and what's planned. The About page is the founder story (third-generation T1D, software dev, 49% TIR, building this for myself). The Contact page is a real form that emails me directly.

A small touch: dark mode. Useful at night when you're checking a dose and don't want a screen at full brightness. Same reason every CGM app has it.

That's the day. Everything works. People are signing up. Now the work shifts to listening.

One short email when something meaningful ships. Probably weekly during beta, less often after.
